| Welcome I am Associate Professor and lectures in Technology, Humans and Society and in Co-operation, Learning and Project Planning. My interest fields at the moment are eg. ICT and faculty development, organized learning, digitalised learning, PBL and the history of the problem. Older fields are masscommunication, communication in organisations and manipulation, journalism, international politics, technology and oil. I am staff member at the UNESCO Chair in Problem Based Learning in Engineering Education. [Date: 01.09.09] Samfundslex which is a very much used social science encyclopedia used at high school level and at universities in the first years is now out in its 5th edition.
Diverse 2009  [Date: 24.06.09] Video mediated oral examination is a challenge and opportunity for examiners as well as students. A new article presented at Diverse 2009 highlights the experiences of external examiners. DIVERSE is the leading conference on all aspects of video and videoconferencing in education - including the convergence of these technologies with online technologies, and the exploration of new possibilities such as telepresence learning, interactive television, virtual reality, computer games, and wireless and handheld access to moving images. It is a challenge and opportunity for students and examinators. Video mediated exams are different. It is easy to imagine that the form could temp the student to cheat. The risk of technological breakdown could make the student nervous and influence the performance negative. Is the student given a satisfactory frame to demonstrate knowledge, skills and competences? [Date: 04.07.08] The School of Basic Studies at Aalborg University, Denmark, operates an internal quality assurance system which combines summative and formative assessment methods at different levels. Internal evaluation is characterized by the use of internal staff or contractors closely bound to the organization to conduct evaluation activities. Programs and problems of direct relevance to the management of the organisations is the usual focus. Remedying problems, not only diagnosing them and developing recommendations, are a purpose. The faster problems can be remedied the better, for the benefits of the organisation, the clients (the students and professors) and the stakeholders, internal (study boards of later semesters) and external (industry). At the conference I presented a paper about the quality assurance system at The School of Basic Studies at Aalborg University written together with Egon Moesby. The paper describes the setup of the internal evaluation system in detail.

PBL Research Symposium 2008 Pre SEFI Conference, Aalborg University
[Date: 01.07.08] Around 100 participants attended the PBL Research Symposium (Preconference for SEFI). There were 25 papers for oral presentations and 18 posters. Claus Monrad Spliid presented our common paper titled: Students’ office in the Aalborg Model.
The paper concludes: Responding students find that the conditions for accumulating cultural capital within the group are much better in group rooms than in studios. The circumstances for presenting and discussing academic matters with each other are ranked much higher when in group rooms contra studios. Also the physical conditions or having meetings with facilitators and sharing knowledge between the group-mates are ranked much higher when in the group room compared to studios. The number of respondents is limited and more research in the field is needed. But all things considered group rooms are - according to responding students of Medicine with Industrial specialisation within their 4th semester - favoured much higher than studios and the respondents find that studios affect their learning negatively. At the events the participants had the opportunity to share experiences with experts in different PBL topics, as well as with academic pairs who expounded their experiences and results on the academic and research fields. Read paper... | | Student environment in the Aalborg Model [Date: 02.06.07] THE DROP out rates at the Basic Year of the Faculty of Engineering, Science and Medicine at Aalborg Universityare fairly stable and at a very low level. When explaining why they drop out students do not mention lack of physical or academic environment as a reason. Only very few drop out because of the social environment between students. Assessment of the project group environment is generally positive. In the paper "Environment, belonging and social world in the Aalborg Model. Preliminary theoretical explanation" written together with Claus Monrad Spliid is presented results from surveys related to the environment during the last years. A theoretical and tentative explanation is given as well. The paper was presented at the DUN Conference 2007 in Aalborg. September 27th a conference was arranged at Roskilde University Center | | The presentation I delivered had focus on pedagogical and technical reflections related to the use of video in the Master in Problem Based Learning in Engineering anq Science at Aalborg University. The master program uses eg. online video streamed lectures as learning resource together with learning resources as discussion forums, online supervision and faciltation, seminars and conventional literature.
